God instructed Jonah to deliver a message to the sinful city of Nineveh, but Jonah chose to flee instead, boarding a ship headed for Tarshish. In response, God sent a powerful storm that put the crew in danger. At Jonah’s request, the sailors threw him into the sea, and the storm immediately calmed.
A large fish swallowed Jonah, and he spent three days inside, praying to God. Afterward, the fish released him onto dry land. Jonah then obeyed God’s command, went to Nineveh, and warned the people to turn from their wrongdoing or face destruction. The people listened, repented, and were spared.
This story shows that even when we stray from God, His love remains constant—and He always welcomes us back.
