Pleasure and pain come from the same part of the brain, and meaninglessness arises not from suffering but from being exhausted by constant pleasure. When the brain is repeatedly flooded with dopamine, it reduces its receptors, causing a person to need more of the addictive substance or behaviour just to feel normal. Artificial pleasure always produces a compensating pain to restore balance. If simple joys—like a sunrise—no longer feel pleasurable, a break from dopamine heavy inputs such as sugar and media can help reset the system. Natural forms of discomfort, like fasting, running, or cold exposure, create lasting, healthy pleasure and support recovery from addiction. Real healing comes from choosing self denial rather than chasing pleasure.
