The Earth is a tiny dot as photographed by the Cassini spacecraft from Saturn, one billion miles away. Though the Earth is insignificant compared to the universe, God invested so much in it by sacrificing His Son to save its inhabitants.
SUMMARY
The Cassini spacecraft was dedicated to observing Saturn. Saturn’s rings are 170 000 miles wide, but very thin, are very nice to behold.
The Cassini spacecraft weights 12 tons and there is no rocket on Earth to take it one billion miles to Saturn. Thus it has been projected towards Venus so that it might be accelerated by its gravity, that of the sun, etc. Than it is aimed back at Earth, than back to Venus to pick even more speed, and than towards Jupiter. It takes seven years to reach Saturn.
From Saturn the earth looks very tiny – like a small dot. In the 19th century Ellen White declared the earth to be but a small speck in comparison with the stars, the universe. She writes in The Desire of Ages page 568: “He [Jesus] might wipe this dark spot [Earth] from His universe. But He does not do this. He is today standing at the altar of incense, presenting before God the prayers of those who desire His help.”
God is both just and merciful. Heaven will be a torture to those that love the world. I am afraid that the Christians that cannot go through a weekend without a Hollywood movie, will not enjoy heaven.
Jesus will not consider heaven a place to be desired while you and I were lost. So he left the ‘99’ worlds and came to save this one – earth (see Matthew 18:12). There is joy in heaven over one sinner that repents (see Luke 15:10).
Dr. John Sanford became a Christian from an evolutionist by putting the gene pool back together and discovering that Adam had a perfect gene pool (every child born has 100 mutations his parents did not have – thus the human race is going downhill). The genetic code is amazing.
“You can never perish while you do this.” “Faith comes by the word of God.” Then grasp His promise, He that commeth to Me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37). Cast yourself at His feet and cry, Lord, I believe, help Thou my unbelief. You can never perish while you do this… never.” (The Desire of Ages page 429)
