The Christian life involves a constant tension between the flesh and the Spirit — between what we naturally desire and what we know is right. This struggle will continue until Jesus returns, but each day we can choose, with God’s help, to walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh, shaping our character and destiny. Private victory leads to public victory. By God’s grace, we can learn to guide our thoughts, which is essential for victory. Good habits support this growth, such as regular sleep, consistent time with God, and an ordered private life. Even our free time should have purpose so the mind does not drift aimlessly. The strongest way to shape our thoughts in the battle with our sinful nature is through the word of God.
