Lord of Humility

When the temple tax collectors asked Peter whether his Master paid the tax, Peter quickly answered, “Yes.” Jesus did not rebuke him, but gently explained that, as the Son of God—the true owner of the temple—He was free from such obligations. Yet, so as not to cause offense, Jesus instructed Peter to go to the lake, where he would find a coin in the mouth of the first fish he caught. With it, Peter was to pay the tax for them both. Through this remarkable lesson, Peter learned humility and the importance of relying fully on God.
