Hearing God's Voice
- About
- Download
Every follower of Jesus should learn to hear God’s voice, and obey. The Lord speaks to us through various ways – the most authoritative being the Bible. We learn to hear His voice by spending time with Him. Those that hear His voice and obey, will cope with whatever will come upon them; but those that do not obey will fall.
SUMMARY
It is essential for a Christian to hear God’s voice and follow it (John 10:1-5). God is constantly talking to us. But satan has so crowded our lives with noise, he makes us so busy and so entertained, that we do not hear the voice of God. Every Christian should learn to follow Jesus on his own. We should follow the Shepherd (Jesus), and not under shepherds (pastors, etc).
The characteristic that identifies the true sheep is that they hear Jesus’ voice (John 10:16, 26-28). God speaks to us through different ways. God speaks to us through the Scriptures (Hebrews 1:1). The Bible has been tested by history to be the word of God, and thus it is the ultimate word of God by which everything has to be tested. The Lord also speaks through providence (Proverbs 3:6). We need to trust in God’s providence even if though we may not understand what He is doing, because the sheep should simply follow their Shepherd. God also speaks to us clearly (Psalm 32:8, Isaiah 30:21).
We learn to hear Jesus’ voice by spending time with Him. We should develop the habit of spending at least one hour with God in the morning. When we hear His voice, God expects us to obey (Revelation 3:20). If we do so, we will not be moved (Matthew 7:24, 25). But the one who does not obey, will not stand (Matthew 7:26, 27).
